Most people would present a myriad of identification such as their social security numbers, their cultures, religion, race and gender in an attempt to define who they really are. The question of an identity raises different reactions from various individuals. It would be erroneous for anyone to assume that the external components of an identity entirely define who the individual is. An identity goes beyond a persons DNA or fingerprint. Life presents different experiences for everyone. I believe that every person has his or her unique identity that may not be explicitly tagged to the common external components of identification such as the names. In addition, people may share names but possess a different identity from each other. My identity is upon different assumptions. Thompson (2014) noted that the firs t assumption is that an identity is shaped by what we are with. The basic documentation any child gets after birth is a birth certificate that relays the name of the child and the parents. My identity goes beyond the paper identity. I am a creation of my parents and would borrow from their traits, but would certainly not be identical to them. I admire my mother, and it is the reason I have the identity of a robust individual. I have always admired her iron fist technique of raising children. I always hated her for scolding me whenever I failed in preschool. However, I have realized that I borrow a lot from her. I am not a quitter, and she would always agitate for aggressive behavior in any setting. I am a diligent student who makes friends easily, but also takes academic and extra-curricular activities very seriously. Identity is shaped through acculturation, and my identity may not be from the contents of my lost wallet alone. However, I would take pride in th e American culture and my native culture. I would be with the choices I make. I would be from the kind of company I keep. I respect the American dream and the American president. I admire his robust and courageous stature. I believe that his role in my life has shaped my identity. He has made me an activist of equality and cultural tolerance within my institutions. Those that we admire can shape identities, and I believe president Barrack Obama has played a role in shaping my identity. According to Davie (2012), identity lies deep within an individual's personality and character. An identity presents the overall figure of a person. Sometimes an identity does not cover the entity of traits and characters in totality, and my identity is by my choices and my desire to keep desirable characters around me.
